１９２３關東大震災時發生的慘劇。許多無辜的人因為種族歧視與災後恐慌而冤死。

以下為節錄後的翻譯：

The panic and confusion created by the earthquake led to numerous false
rumors spreading both inside and outside of the affected regions.
地震所造成的恐慌與混亂，使得許多不實謠言在災區內外散播。

The Home Ministry declared martial law, and ordered all sectional police
chiefs to make maintenance of order and security a top priority. One
particularly pernicious rumor was that Koreans were taking advantage of the
disaster, committing arson and robbery, and were in possession of bombs.
日本內務省宣佈進入戒嚴狀態，並下令各區警局長將維持治安視為第一優先。
其中最惡毒的謠言之一，便是在日韓國人趁火打劫，犯下放火與搶劫等罪，
甚至持有炸彈。

In the aftermath of the quake, mass murder of Koreans by brutal mobs
occurred in urban Tokyo and Yokohama, fueled by rumors of rebellion
and sabotage.
震災後在東京與橫濱市區內，這些指控叛亂與惡意破壞的謠言，造成了暴民
大量屠殺韓國人的慘狀。

Some newspapers reported the rumors as fact, which led to the most
deadly rumor of all: that the Koreans were poisoning wells.
某些報紙將這些謠言如事實般報導出來，其中最有殺傷力的便是「韓國人在
井水裡下毒」的不實指控。

The numerous fires and cloudy well water, a little-known
effect of a large quake, all seemed to confirm the rumors of the
panic-stricken survivors who were living amidst the rubble.
許多人不知道大形地震往往會造成大量的火災以及混濁的井水，
驚慌的倖存者在斷垣殘壁之中更將這些跡象視為證實謠言的證據。

Vigilante groups set up roadblocks in cities, towns and villages
across the region. Because people with Korean accents pronounced
"G" or "J" in the beginning of words differently, 15円 50銭
(jū-go-en, go-jū-sen) and がぎぐげご (gagigugego) were used as
 a shibboleth.
居民自行主持正義，在災區各地設立了自發性的路障關口。由於韓國腔日語
對「ㄍ」與「ㄐ」開頭發音的字與一般日本人不同，日本人利用「十五円」、
「十五錢」（jyuugo-en, go-jyuu-sen），與「がぎぐげご」
（嘎　ㄍㄧ　姑　給　夠）等發音來考過路者，並以此判斷對方為何民族。

Anyone who failed to pronounce them properly was deemed Korean. Some
were told to leave, but many were beaten or killed.
任何無法正確發音的人，皆被認定為韓國人。有些被告知必須離開，但更多則
被毆打或是殺害。

Moreover, anyone mistakenly identified as Korean, such as Chinese, Okinawans,
and Japanese speakers of some regional dialects, suffered the same fate.
除此之外，許多被誤以為是韓國人的中國人、沖繩人、帶有日本其他地區鄉音的人，
也受到了相同的迫害。

In response, the Japanese Army and the police conducted operations to protect
Koreans. More than 2,000 Koreans were taken in for protection from the mobs
across the region, although recent studies have shown that there were
incidents where army and police personnel are known to have condoned or even
colluded in the vigilante killings in some areas.
日本軍方及警方為此展開了一系列行動以保護韓國人。兩千人以上的韓國人被官方保護，
但近年來的研究顯示在某些地區，軍方及警方人員採取睜一隻眼閉一隻眼的態度，甚至
有些還與暴民同為殺害的共犯。

On top of this violence, socialists like Hirasawa Keishichi, anarchists
like Sakae Osugi and Noe Ito, and the Chinese communal leader, Ou Kiten,
were abducted and killed by members of the police, who took advantage of
the turmoil to liquidate perceived enemies of the state amidst claims
that radicals intended to use the crisis as an opportunity to overthrow
the Japanese government.
除了上述暴力行為之外，社會主義者如平沢計七、無政府正義者如大杉栄、伊藤野枝，
以及中國社區領袖 Ou Kiten 也被警方人員私自擄回殺害。這些人員宣稱被害的政治
激進份子企圖在震災之時推翻日本政府，並趁災後混亂的時機除去政敵。

The importance of obtaining and providing accurate information following
natural disasters has been emphasized in Japan ever since. Earthquake
preparation literature in modern Japan almost always directs citizens to
carry a portable radio and use it to listen to reliable information, and not
to be misled by rumors in the event of a large earthquake.
自從關東大震災之後，在天災發生之時提供正確的資訊給災民成為日本致力達成的目標。
現代日本的地震預防文獻之中，幾乎一定會指示民眾在大型災難發生時，隨身攜帶
收音機，以確保民眾能得到可靠的資訊，並避免被不實謠言影響。

[33;40m我們的「民主」、「言論自由」，並用各種方式表達出我們與他們在素質上跟水準
[33;40m上不同。

[33;40m除此之外，這幾天下來，大家都明顯對照出台灣媒體的煽動手法與日本媒體的相對
[33;40m冷靜、專業（少數忘記關 mic 的個案除外 XD）。

[33;40m對自己（以及我們的國家、媒體）期許高絕對是好事，但在同一天之內羨慕日本的
[33;40m高度文明，轉頭又嘲諷中國低水準，我們自己又是否能言行一致？

[33;40m我不能強求全部台灣人都如何，但每個人要管好自己。如果自己可以管好自己的話，
[33;40m就算那是很小很小的貢獻，但那也是讓台灣能像日本一樣文明的第一步。

我認真是因為我覺得文明社會是每一個人努力的結果。

沒有比自己努力還更能說服別人的方法了。
